The Consulting Conversation

Every Business Owner We Speak To Says The Same Thing:

“I know our IT could be better. I just don't have the time or expertise to figure out what to fix first.”

That is exactly where an independent IT consultant earns their fee. Instead of guessing, patching, or spending money on technology that does not fit the business, you get a clear roadmap built around how you actually operate. Our consultants have spent 25+ years helping Australian businesses cut through vendor noise, make confident technology decisions, and stop wasting money on systems that hold them back.

Whether you need a full 3-year technology roadmap, a second opinion before a major software purchase, or someone to untangle the mess your current setup has become, we show you exactly what to do and help you get it done. And we can prove our advice works because we also deliver managed IT for hundreds of Australian businesses. The theory and the practice sit in the same team.

What We Advise On

IT Consulting Services Built Around How Your Business Actually Works

Every business has different technology challenges. Our consulting services span the full spectrum, from high-level strategy to hands-on implementation guidance, so you get the right expertise at every stage.

Business

ICT Consulting & Technology Audit

You have probably had an IT provider tell you everything is fine, then found out months later that systems were held together with duct tape. Our ICT consulting starts with a full, independent audit. We document what is working, what is costing you money, and what needs to change. You walk away with a prioritised action plan (not a 50-page report that gathers dust), with costs, risks and expected business impact beside every item.

Strategic Technology Planning

Most businesses buy IT reactively. Something breaks, you pay for it. The sales rep says upgrade, you upgrade. Strategic planning flips that. We build a 1-3 year roadmap that tracks your growth plans, with quarterly budget forecasts, a risk register for aging systems, and a phased upgrade schedule that keeps your team productive. Businesses that plan technology strategically typically cut unplanned IT costs by 25-40% within the first year.

System Integration Consulting

Staff copying data between spreadsheets. Reps re-keying the same information into three platforms. Files emailed because systems do not talk. That is hours every week lost to work that should be automated. We map every data touchpoint, identify the bottlenecks, and design API, middleware or native integrations that create one source of truth. Tested thoroughly before go-live so your team feels zero disruption on the switchover.

Digital Transformation Guidance

You have tried upgrading systems before. Maybe you bought software nobody ended up using, or started a migration that stalled halfway because it turned out to be twice as complex as promised. Digital transformation fails when it is treated as a technology project instead of a business change project. We guide the transition end-to-end: process mapping, platform selection, workflow configuration, hands-on training. We measure success by adoption rates and time saved, not just whether the software was installed.

Software Selection & Vendor Negotiation

The wrong software decision can cost a business tens of thousands and years of frustration. Every vendor will tell you their product is the best fit. An independent consultant cuts through the pitch: we build a requirements matrix with your team, shortlist three to five platforms, run demonstrations with decision-makers, and score each option on cost, functionality, scalability and vendor stability. We also negotiate contracts on your behalf, typically saving clients 15-30% on multi-year agreements.

Cyber Security & Compliance Consulting

Most businesses do not realise they are a target until there is a ransomware demand or a client data breach. Security consulting is not about fear. It is about understanding your real exposure and closing the gaps before they become incidents. Our assessments cover network architecture, endpoint protection, access management, email filtering, backup and recovery, staff awareness and Essential Eight alignment. You get a prioritised remediation plan, starting with the highest-risk items, not a vague compliance score.

The People Advising You

Strategy Sessions With Senior Practitioners, Not Junior Analysts.

Your consulting engagement is led by people who have spent decades actually running the technology they advise on. No handover to a junior after the kickoff call.

Team

Abhishek Bhargava

Abhi founded Telco ICT and has spent over two decades advising Victorian business owners on infrastructure, connectivity and vendor strategy. He runs discovery himself, so the person who scopes your roadmap is the person accountable for delivering it.

Team

Matt Zammit

Matt leads delivery across cloud, network and infrastructure projects, including multi-site migrations for retail, food production and community organisations. He assesses workloads on cost, risk and what your team can realistically support, not on what a vendor happens to be pushing that quarter.

Team

Kate Corbett

Kate leads Essential Eight uplift and compliance work for clients in healthcare, legal and financial services. She scores risk on business impact first, so remediation starts with what would actually hurt if it failed, not with the longest item on the checklist.

Why Telco ICT Group

Consulting Firms Hand You a Report. We Help You Execute It.

Most consulting engagements end with a polished strategy document and a hearty handshake. Three months later, nothing has changed. We do the opposite. Because Telco ICT Group also delivers managed IT, every recommendation we make is grounded in what actually works once the strategy hits production.

We know what breaks, what scales, and what causes headaches six months after deployment, because we manage those same systems for Australian businesses every day. That is the difference between advice that sounds good in a boardroom and advice that holds up when your team sits down on Monday morning.

Transparent Pricing From Day One

You have been burned by providers who quote one number and invoice another. Every Telco ICT engagement is scoped and quoted upfront before any work begins. You get a detailed scope of work outlining exactly what you pay for, what deliverables arrive, and by when. No hourly surprises, no hidden fees, no invoices you cannot explain to your CFO.

Telco

Specialists, Not Generalists

Your technology challenges span infrastructure, cloud, security, networking and software. A single generalist cannot cover all of it well. Our consulting team is made of discipline specialists, so you get the right expert for each challenge. With 25+ years of combined experience across healthcare, finance, construction and professional services, we have usually solved your problem before.

Telco

Implementation And Ongoing Support

A strategy document is worthless if nobody executes it. Unlike firms that hand you a PDF and move to the next client, we stay. Every consulting engagement includes implementation support, a follow-up review to confirm the changes are delivering, and ongoing access to our team for questions and adjustments long after the initial project wraps.

Technology Aligned To Growth

Most businesses treat IT as a cost to minimise instead of an investment to steer. We align technology decisions with your business plan, so every dollar on IT moves the business forward. Opening a second office, hiring 20 new staff, entering a new market: your roadmap supports that growth without bottlenecks, downtime or last-minute scrambles.

Is This You?

You Know Something Needs to Change. You Just Don't Know What.

IT consulting is not just for ASX-listed corporations. If any of these situations sound familiar, you are exactly the kind of business that benefits from an independent consultant who can see the full picture, not just the part their product happens to solve.

Expertise And Experience

You have added tools, patched systems and bolted on integrations as you have grown. It feels like you are building on top of a foundation that was never designed for this. Consulting gives growing businesses a structured plan to upgrade infrastructure, move to the cloud and put the right platforms in place before growth exposes the cracks. The businesses that plan ahead are the ones that scale without the fire drills.

You Have Compliance Obligations You Are Not Sure You Meet

You have tried to address compliance requirements internally, but you are not confident your technology actually meets regulatory standards for data handling, privacy or reporting. A consultant assesses your setup against those obligations and closes the gaps. This is especially critical for healthcare providers, financial services, legal firms and government contractors where non-compliance carries serious financial and reputational consequences.

You Are Thinking About the Cloud But Don't Know Where to Start

You have tried researching cloud options yourself. Every provider claims to be the best fit, pricing models are confusing, and vendor reps all have an agenda. A consultant evaluates which workloads should move, which should stay on-premise, and which platform genuinely fits. Get this wrong and you pay for capacity you never use or pick something that will not support your critical apps. We take the guesswork out so you get it right the first time.

You Are Paying for IT and Cannot Tell What You Are Getting

Invoices arrive, licences renew, vendors bill monthly, and nobody in the business can explain what half of it does or whether it is still needed. A consultant audits every line: what you pay for, what is actually in use, what overlaps, and what your contracts let you exit. Most engagements find enough duplicated spend to cover the cost of the review.

You Are About to Make a Decision You Cannot Undo

A new ERP, a major migration, an office move, an acquisition. These are the decisions where getting it wrong costs years rather than months. A second opinion from someone with no stake in the outcome, before you sign, is cheap next to unwinding it afterwards.

How The Engagement Runs

From First Conversation to Clear IT Strategy in Weeks, Not Months

No drawn-out discovery, no vague timelines. Here is exactly how the consulting engagement runs, step by step, so you know what to expect from the moment you reach out.

1

Assessment

We review your current environment, business goals, pain points and budget to understand where you stand today. Typically 1-2 weeks. Includes interviews with key stakeholders, a technical audit of infrastructure, and a review of existing vendor contracts and licensing arrangements.

2

Strategy

We turn the findings into a prioritised roadmap: what to fix now, what to plan for, and what to leave alone. Typically two to three weeks. You get the phased plan, a costed budget forecast, a scored risk register and a vendor scorecard, presented in a working session with your decision-makers rather than emailed as a PDF.

3

Implementation

You choose who executes it. If you want us to deliver, we scope and quote each phase upfront. If you have an internal team or a preferred partner, we hand over the implementation playbook with acceptance criteria and configuration notes so they can run it. Either way, we stay available while it is being built.

4

Ongoing Check-In

We review progress against the roadmap each quarter, adjust for anything that has changed in the business, and re-score the risk register. Roadmaps go stale within months if nobody revisits them. This is how it stays a working document instead of a file on a shared drive.

What a Consulting Engagement Delivers

A 3-Year Technology Roadmap You Can Hand to the Board

No abstract principles. No 80-slide deck. A dated, phased plan with the biggest wins up front, infrastructure in the middle, and growth enablement at the end. Here is the shape it takes.

01

Months 0 - 1
Discovery & Audit
  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Technical environment audit
  • Vendor contract review
  • Cost and risk baseline

02

Months 1 - 3
Quick Wins
  • Close highest-risk security gaps
  • Consolidate duplicate tools
  • Renegotiate overpriced contracts
  • Fix known cost leaks

03

Months 3 - 12
Core Infrastructure
  • Cloud migration (phased)
  • Network and firewall refresh
  • Essential Eight uplift
  • Backup and DR hardening

04

Year 2
Platform & Integration
  • Replace ageing core systems
  • CRM / ERP / finance integration
  • Single source of truth for data
  • Multi-site standardisation

05

Year 3

  • Workflow automation
  • AI-assisted operations
  • Scalability for new sites or hires
  • Quarterly review cadence

Every roadmap is tailored to your business. The phases above show the typical shape; the specifics come out of your discovery workshop.

What You Physically Receive

Practical Artefacts, Not 80-Slide Decks

Every consulting engagement ends with documents built to be used, not filed. Here is what lands on your desk.

Technology Audit Report

A plain-language view of what you have, what is working, what is broken, and what is at risk. Includes infrastructure, cloud, security, software, licensing and vendor relationships.

3-Year Strategic Roadmap

The phased, dated plan showing which initiatives happen when, the dependencies between them, and the estimated effort and cost at each stage. Handable to your board.

Budget & Cost Forecast

Quarterly spend projections across capex and opex. Vendor breakdowns, licensing forecasts, and the real cost of doing nothing. Built to slot into your finance team’s model.

Risk Register

Ranked list of ageing systems, compliance gaps, security exposures and single points of failure. Each entry scored by likelihood and business impact, with a mitigation path.

Vendor Scorecard

Every current vendor evaluated on cost, performance, contract terms, renewal dates and alternatives in the market. Highlights which relationships are worth keeping and which to replace.

Implementation Playbook

Who does what, when, and how we know it is done. Acceptance criteria for every stage, rollback plans, and the exact configuration notes your future IT team or internal staff will rely on.

Service Areas

IT Consulting Across Australia

Melbourne is home, and most of our consulting work runs across Victoria. We also advise multi-site businesses with operations interstate, delivered remotely with on-site workshops at the points that warrant them.

Melbourne and VIC

Our home base. On-site workshops, technical audits and strategy sessions across metro and regional Victoria. Melbourne businesses face unique challenges around rapid growth corridors, a competitive talent market, and supporting hybrid workforces across the CBD, suburban offices and regional sites. We know the local landscape and the local vendors.

Brisbane and QLD

Remote strategy engagements and scheduled on-site workshops for growing Queensland businesses. South East Queensland’s commercial expansion means many businesses need technology plans that scale across new sites and growing headcount without demanding a complete infrastructure rebuild every 18 months.

Sydney and NSW

Nationwide remote consulting for multi-site businesses and distributed operations. We deliver assessments, strategy sessions and ongoing reviews via secure video conferencing and remote access tools, giving you the same depth of service regardless of where your offices are. On-site workshops bolted on for milestones or board-level presentations.

Perth and WA

Consulting for NSW businesses from finance and legal firms in the CBD to manufacturers and healthcare providers across Greater Sydney. Most engagements run remotely with on-site workshops at key milestones, giving Sydney clients the same depth of work without paying for weekly interstate travel.

Australia-Wide

Cloud strategy and remote consulting for distributed teams across Western Australia. WA businesses in mining services, logistics and resources often operate across vast distances where reliable connectivity and cloud-based systems are operationally critical. We build strategies that respect that reality, not generic templates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About IT Consulting

Straight answers to the questions business owners ask before engaging a consultant.

An IT consultant assesses your current technology against where the business is heading, then tells you what to change and in what order. That covers infrastructure, cloud, security, software selection, vendor contracts and integration. The output is a costed, prioritised plan you can act on, not a general opinion about best practice.

Support fixes what is broken today. Consulting decides what you should be running in the first place. Support is reactive and ongoing; consulting is a defined engagement with a start, an end and a deliverable. We do both, which is why our advice accounts for what happens after the strategy goes into production.

It depends on the size of the environment and the scope, so we quote it upfront after a free 30-minute session, and the number in the scope of work is the number you pay. A single-site technology audit is a very different engagement to a multi-site three-year roadmap. No hourly billing that quietly runs over.

We hold partnerships with Microsoft, Fortinet, HP and CrowdStrike, and we say so upfront. Where a partner product is genuinely the right fit, our pricing is usually better than going direct. Where it is not, we recommend against it. Every recommendation comes with the alternatives we assessed and why they scored lower.

Your choice, and it is written into the engagement that way. We can deliver it, your internal team can, or a third party can. You receive the implementation playbook regardless, with acceptance criteria and configuration notes, so the plan is executable by anyone competent, not only by us.

Discovery and audit run one to two weeks. Strategy and roadmap add another two to three. Most clients have a costed, board-ready plan within six weeks of the first conversation. Larger multi-site environments take longer, and we tell you the timeline before you commit rather than after.

No. The audit runs alongside normal operations. We need access, some time with a handful of key people, and your vendor and licensing documentation. Total demand on your team is usually four to six hours spread across the assessment period.

If you have staff, systems and a growth plan, there is enough to review. The engagements that deliver the most tend to be businesses between 15 and 150 staff, where the setup was built for a smaller company and nobody has stepped back to look at it since.

Most of our consulting clients do, and plenty of engagements start as a second opinion. We assess the environment, not the provider. If your current provider is doing good work, the report will say so and you will have evidence for it. If something is being missed, you will have that in writing too.

We ask what is not working, what you are planning, and what has already been tried. You get an honest read on whether consulting would help, what we would look at first, and a rough sense of scope and cost. If we do not think you need us, we will say so. No obligation either way.
